Every mile a mobile mechanic drives between jobs is a mile that doesn't pay. Smart Area Match steers new online bookings toward the days you're already working nearby — so your jobs cluster, your routes tighten, and you fit more work into the same day.
Today we're rolling out a feature built specifically for mobile mechanics: Smart Area Match. When a customer books online, if you already have a confirmed job near where their vehicle will be on an upcoming day, Garage Shift gently steers them toward that day. It's a quiet bit of matchmaking that turns scattered bookings into tight, efficient routes — more jobs in a day, fewer miles between them.
The problem with a scattered week
As a mobile mechanic, your day isn't just the jobs — it's the driving between them. Two bookings ten minutes apart is a good day. Two bookings on opposite sides of the county is a day where half your working hours vanish behind the wheel. The trouble is, when customers book online they have no idea where you'll already be. They pick whatever day suits them, and your week scatters across the map. Smart Area Match closes that gap without you having to phone anyone or rearrange a thing.
Set your radius once
Setup is a single control. In your booking settings you'll find your Smart Area Match radius, in miles — the distance that counts as "nearby". Set it to 10, 15, or whatever matches how far you're happy to treat two jobs as part of the same run. That's it. There's no list to maintain and nothing to switch on job by job: once your radius is set, Smart Area Match works quietly in the background on every online booking that comes in.
"We'll already be in your area"
Here's what your customer sees. As they book, they enter the vehicle location — where you'll actually be doing the work, which isn't always their home address. When they reach the date and time step, if you have a confirmed job nearby on an upcoming day, a friendly prompt appears at the top: "Good news — we'll already be in your area on Thursday." One tap on Book this slot and they're in, on the day that's easiest for you to reach. Prefer to choose their own time? See other times drops them straight into the normal picker — the nudge is a suggestion, never a wall.

It fits both booking modes. If you offer a single slot, the customer taps Book this slot or See other times. If you let customers give three preferred times, the suggested slot can be dropped in as their first choice with Add to my times, ready for you to confirm. Either way the recommended day is highlighted and tagged "Nearby", so it's easy to spot at a glance.

One detail worth knowing: Smart Area Match always points to the day you'll be closest to that customer — the strongest "we'll be right by you" signal — rather than simply the next available date. And once the booking lands, you'll see a small note on the request telling you the customer took a suggested slot, so you can watch your routes tightening over time.
Your customers' privacy, protected by design
Smart Area Match never reveals one customer's details to another. The booking page only ever shows a day and a time that's already in that customer's own availability — never another customer's name, address, or location, and never how far apart two jobs are. The distances are worked out on Garage Shift's side and stay there.
A quick word on the maths: "nearby" is measured in a straight line, as the crow flies — not by driving distance. It's a fast, simple way to spot jobs in the same pocket of the map, and the final call on whether two jobs really group well is always yours.
Built for the road
Smart Area Match is live now for mobile mechanic accounts. Set your radius in your booking settings, and the next time a customer books near a job you've already got on, Garage Shift will do the quiet work of pulling your week into shape — so you spend less time driving and more time earning.
